Alarming results of Youth-Net’s Sex Factor survey of young Britons

The young Briton's charity Youth-Net has recently reported some alarming results of its Sex Factor survey, in which more than 2,000 youth - between 16 years and 24 years in age - were questioned about their attitudes towards sex.

The analysis revealed that more than 90 per cent of the young people surveyed claimed they were sexually active, and a distressingly
-high proportion - 55 percent - came clean about their anxiety with regard to contracting a sexually-transmitted disease.

As per the report, one in every three young people admitted being involved in a drunken one-night stand - which they regretted later - and nearly the same number, almost 32 percent, confessed having unprotected sex in an inebriated state.

Two out of every five youth polled felt that they were too young at the time of losing their virginity - with almost one-third being less than the legal age of 16 years. More than one-fourth of them said they were disappointed with their first sexual encounter - the reason largely, 75 percent, being selecting the wrong partner; 40 percent being in the "wrong" place!

Calling alcohol and sex a perilous combination, relationship expert Matt Whyman, of YouthNet's online advice service, added: "Alcohol combined with little or no sexual experience can mean dramatic disappointment and regret for young people, or more serious consequences like unplanned pregnancy, STIs or even sexual abuse."
