New and Improved Anti-Obesity Drug Developed

In a breakthrough research, a new anti-obesity drug has been developed by the scientists from the Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, which is capable of losing weight with the effect double than the best known medication yet.

The drug is named as Topamax after it was made with the combined extracts from Phentermine and topiramate.

According to the scientists involved in the study, Topamax was found to be doubly more effective than the anti-obesity pill orlistat.

Not only the drug was able to fight that extra waste around the waist but also conditions like blood pressure, sugar levels, lipids and inflammation.

It is learnt that more than 2,400 adults who were either obese or overweight and were suffering from two major health-risks were recruited for the study.

The subjects were categorized into three groups, out of which, one was given once-a-day dose of 7.5 mg of Phentermine and 46 mg of topiramate, while a second group was given 15 and 92 mg of the same drugs, respectively. Against this, the third group was given look-alike placebos.

The lead researcher of the study, Kishore M. Gadde stated: “This treatment led to significant improvement in excess weight-related diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure and risk factors such as high cholesterol”.

The findings of the research are published in the latest issue of The Lancet.
