A recent report by Choice, a consumer group, has unveiled that the people who are planning to travel abroad are given unnecessary jabs in the name of mandatory travel vaccines.
Following these results, a word of caution has been sent by a group voicing its fears against the shots that can do harm than good by giving then to those revelers who may actually do not need them at all.
The reasons for this misunderstanding have been credited to the lack of awareness among people as well as their physicians.
A Spokeswoman for the Choice, Ingrid Just stated that GPs are not appropriately aware of the best shots to be given because most of the times they are inexperienced.
With one in ten Australians touring out of the country each year, the travel vaccine market has expanded abnormally, but it is safe to take consultation from an experienced doctor before heading abroad.
It is learnt that a single travel vaccine can costs as much as $45 to $85, whereas the multi-shot regime for rabies and Japanese B encephalitis can burn a hole in the pocket by amounting up to $300-$360.
Ms. Just stated: "It's wrong to give travelers shots they don't need and it's unsafe if they walk away from the doctor's surgery without ones they do”.
