What went awry with Gmail service?

It left many of the Gmail users frowned and frustrated early Tuesday, when the email service of Google suffered an outage. Yes, many of the Gmail users around the world were unable to access their email accounts.

According to reports, the Google mail service remained offline from about 4:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. ET or from 9:30 a.m. till noon for nations on Greenwich Mean Time. The email service bounced back to the track by the time many Americans on the East Coast were awake.

Google stated that it came to know about the problem shortly after 9:30 a.m. GMT. In a message for the Gmail users, posted on Google’s corporate blog, Google wrote, “If you’ve tried to access your Gmail account today, you are probably aware by now that we’re having some problems.”

When the service resumed, Gmail’s help center page displayed a message, “The problem is now resolved and users have had access restored. We know how important Gmail is to our users, so we take issues like this very seriously, and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

In a message posted in the Official Google Blog, Gmail Site Reliability Manager Acacio Cruz wrote, "We know that for many of you this disrupted your working day. We're really sorry about this, and we did do everything to restore access as soon as we could.” He added, “Obviously we're never happy when outages occur, but we would like to stress that this is an unusual occurrence.”

Gmail service definitely did bounce back to track from its outage, but one question, which Google was unable to answer, was “What went awry with Gmail service?”

Google spokesman said, “We're actively investigating the source of the issue and will share more information with our users as soon as we have it.”

The recent multi-hour Gmail outage was the Google’s sixth downtime in the past eight months. Last month, Google’s search engine went crazy, when it started showing an erroneous message, “This site may harm your computer.”

However, according to Google, while its Gmail service suffered outage, the U.S. and U.K. users who enabled Gmail offline through Gmail Labs should have been able to access their inboxes.
