Man Wins $212 million As Compensation

Reports suggested that a Fredericksburg-area man won compensation worth $212 million on Thursday from Botox drug manufacturer after he claimed in a lawsuit that this drug has caused his brain damage and left him disabled.

The suit, by Douglas Ray Jr., 67, against Allergan Inc., of Irvine, Calif., began with Judge Robert E. Payne, who was presiding over the case. Ray complained that Allergan did not warn his doctor regarding the negative effects of the drug.

Ray Chester, of Austin, Texas, one of Douglas' lawyers, said the suit asked for $12 million in compensatory damages and left the punitive damages up to the jury — "but we asked that it be big. This is the biggest Botox award, for sure, and it's got to be one of the biggest around here in Richmond".

Ray, a veteran of Vietnam War, was given an injection of Botox in the year 2007 for treating a hand tremor and writer’s cramp. He complained that Botox caused severe medical complications and disability. Apart from this Ray had lost $643,800 in the medical expenses for his treatment.

Ray’s husband Peggy commented that she is so thankful to God for giving such honest doctors, great attorneys, and fantastic jury member for paying so much attention to this case.
