It appears that the Santa Clara, California based world's largest chip maker, Intel Corporation is looking to start outsourcing crucial manufacturing. Intel Corporation and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) are expected to announce strategic partnership on Monday.
In an emailed statement on Friday, Intel stated that the details of “strategic partnership” will be revealed by Chief Sean Maloney and general manager of Ultra Mobility Anand Chandrashekar, along with TSMC CEO Rick Tsai in Santa Clara, California on March 2.
Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy declined to provide more details about the “strategic tie up” and the world's biggest manufacturer of made-to-order chips, TSMC did not respond for comment.
Headquartered at Hsinchu Science Park in Hsinchu, Taiwan, TSMC is the biggest chip foundry or contract manufacturer in the world. It helps chip design companies to focus on designing chips, while TSMC manufactures them. In that sense, TSMC helps mushrooming Intel competitors.
