So, the updates for Apple’s three desktop computer models came out as expected. On Tuesday, Apple rolled out new versions of its iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini computers.
The new updated version of Apple’s iconic iMac model is a larger 24-inch model offering 4GB of memory and a 640GB hard drive. It is priced at $1,499 in the United States. The company has brought down the price of the 20 inch iMac model. Previously, it was retailed at $1,499, but now it is priced at $1,199.
The 24-inch iMac model gives its users choice of advancing the processor up to a 3.06ghz Core 2 Duo chip as well as up to 1TB hard drive space and a choice of Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon graphics cards.
According to Apple, while the earlier generation iMacs used a dedicated graphics card, the two lower-end iMacs will now use an integrated graphics chipset – Nvidia's GeForece 9400, on which all current games are playable. However, two higher-end iMac models will still use dedicated graphics cards.
The new updated Mac Pro models are the first to use Intel Nehalem processors and new Nvidia GeForce GT 120 graphics cards. The Mac Pro models come with a starting price of $2,499. The price sounds big, but actually it is $300 less than the old models.
Speaking of the new models, the Apple’s product marketing senior vice president, Philip Schiller said, "The Mac Pro features an advanced system architecture, new faster processors and our best-ever graphics options to deliver a faster, more powerful system that our professional customers are going to love.”
The new updated Mac Mini desktop models are equipped with Nvidia GeForce 9400 cards capable of supporting two displays. Apple has reduced power consumption for Mac Mini desktop models to 13 watts, which the company claims is the lowest for any desktop model on the market.
Apple elaborated that the new Mac Mini desktop models include two video ports – one Mini-DVI and one Mini-DisplayPort. That means that now two displays can be attached to Mac Mini. Apple is the only company to use Mini-DisplayPort, so it may require some of Apple's world-famous video adapters. Apple includes a Mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter in the box; the users having a VGA monitor will have to purchase a Mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter, which may cost around $20.
