Google's video sharing website, YouTube got 100 million viewers for the first time in January 2009; says the online researcher comScore's data released on Thursday. The data from comScore articulates that the Americans web users watched 14.8 billion online videos last month.
According to comScore, online video viewership was 4% up from December, and over 147 million U. S. web users viewed an average of 101 videos each in January.
The comScore's report states that Google's supersite YouTube was the top U. S. video site in January. The internet users watched 6.4 billion videos on YouTube, which now has 43% of the online video market share. The report says that 99% percent of all videos on YouTube were viewed, and the site experienced 91% of the growth. YouTube got just over 100 million unique visitors, with the average visitor viewing about 62 videos in January, for an average of 3.5 minutes.
Next listed in the comScore's report is Fox Interactive Media's social networking site MySpace, which had its 552 million videos viewed in January; MySpace, which now has 3.7 percent market share, had 62 million unique viewers, with people watching an average of 9 videos on the site. Yahoo, with 374 million videos viewed, 42 million unique viewers, and 2.5 percent market share, has been listed as number three most popular online video property.
The comScore research states on average, about 77 percent of Internet users watched Web videos; and average viewer watched 6 hours of online videos last month, 15% up from December.
According to comScore research, with 250 million videos viewed and 24.4 million unique viewers, Hulu. com was running ahead of the Turner Network and Disney, and for the first time, Facebook had 150 million users in January.
