SuperSecret closes first funding round of $10 million for its virtual world

In its first funding round, led by Opus Capital, SuperSecret virtual world company has lately bagged $10 million! Earlier, the company had raised a $1.5 million in seed funding round, and another $8.5 million as part of the same round, also led by Opus Capital.

Founded in late 2007, SuperSecret is one of the nearly 200 virtual worlds for kids, including some biggies like Disney's Club Penguin, Webkinz, Pirates of the Carribbean and Stardoll.

In the SuperSecret virtual world, kids choose an avatar after logging into the world. Thereafter, they roam around, while chatting with other players - with a phone-like chat client, unlike an instant messenger client, being used for the chats.

Nearly 35 familiar casual Flash-based games - including Bloons and Fancy Pants Adventures - can be accessed through SuperSecret. However, the "meta game" is a cut above the rest, in the sense that the kids in the cartoon world can "grow older" and gain privileges. The players start at 10 years, and work their way up in the game to grow to 18 years, by achieving particular 'things' in the different games!

About SuperSecret striking deals with third-party game publishers and developers, allowing them to include their games on the site, CEO Ted Barnett says that it is a move designed to put up familiar hits for kids instead of taking a risk on lackluster games!
