Apple releases iTunes 8.1 and Front Row Update

The updated version of iTunes music jukebox and device-management software, iTunes 8.1 was officially released by Apple on Wednesday.

Featuring speed and parental control improvements, iTunes 8.1 supports syncing with new line of third-gen iPod shuffles and offers Genius Sidebar support for movies and television shows. The updated iTunes 8.1 also features many accessibility improvements and some security enhancements.

iTunes 8.1 allows the users to request songs for "iTunes DJ". The new iTunes DJ features allow iPhone and iPod touch users to vote on upcoming tracks.

iTunes 8.1 improves speed and performace while downloading iTunes Plus songs. It offers Genius sidebar for Movies and TV Shows. The Genius Sidebar helps finding relevant videos much the same way it finds music.

iTunes 8.1 provides AutoFill for manually managed iPods. It allows CDs to be imported at the same sound quality as iTunes Plus. It allows iTunes U and the iTunes Store to be disabled separately using Parental Controls.

Besides, Apple also released Front Row Update 2.1.7 (13.3 MB), promising to deliver improved compatibility with iTunes 8.1. iTunes 8.1 is available as a free download from Apple's Web site.
