Yesterday, the social networking site Facebook activated its updated and restyled user homepages, which look a lot similar to Twitter. Cerianly, the Facebook's new user homepages display Twitter like design.
The updated user homepages of Facebook display updates from friend at top center and "What's on your mind?" box above the stream. The new user homepages offer Twitter-like real-time stream of posts from friends and acquaintances, and also offer an option to control the stream of posts using filters on the left side of the page. The users can hide posts from friends in this stream by clicking "x" in the upper-right corner of a post.
The other new features added to the Facebook users' homepages include The Publisher, and Highlights. The Publisher lets user to create a message, attach additional media and share it with all of their friends. The new Highlights section shows important activities happening over a longer period of time, contrary to real-time stream that just shows what is happening in real time. The Highlights section features images, notes, events, links that connections have commented on, and more.
The users' profile pages look more modular now. They display photos of chatters. The users' the home and profile pages now show larger number of ads. The pages show new feature called The Publisher, accompanied by the picture of the person making the post.
Facebook spokesperson Hana Mandapat said, "Facebook will migrate all users to the new home pages slowly, so everyone should have the new home page over the coming days."
