Forbes’ billionaire list no longer figures Mark Zuckerberg, leading VCs

Forbes' latest list of the world's billionaires has quite a few surprising drop-offs from among the unbelievably wealthy individuals! With recession taking an indirect toll on the richest of the rich, the most prominent names that no longer figure on the billionaire list are - Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook; Michael Moritz of Sequoia Capital; and Arthur Rock, the venture capital pioneer.

According to Forbes, while Zuckerberg with $1.5 billion net worth was the world's youngest billionaire last year; this time round - a $600-million poorer Zuckerberg has become "simply a youthful multi-millionaire."

As per the Wall Street Journal's DealBook blog, though both Moritz and Rock have fallen off the billionaire list, Moritz still retains his number two ranking on Forbes' Midas List of the world's top venture capitalists, thanks to his investment in Google. With a $1.3 billion net worth, Moritz was earlier at the 897th rank; and with a $1.1 billion net worth, Rock held the 1,014th rank.

Though the total number of billionaires has dropped to 793 from the earlier 1,125, some of the leading tech and venture capital billionaires still figure on the list. Among them are Microsoft founder Bill Gates worth $40 billion; Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page worth 12 billion each; and Google co-investors - other than Moritz - John Doerr and Ram Shiram worth $1.2 billion each.
