HP: New Batteries Will Live As Long As Your Notebook

That "green batteries" are making their way into quality notebooks evident from Hewlett-Packard's Monday offering. HP has introduced PC line notebooks with three-year warranty-supported "green batteries," which will last the lifetime of a PC!

The move by HP comes as a result of its deal with Boston-Power. The leading PC supplier has agreed to sell three-year Sonata lithium-ion batteries by B-P in tandem with 18 of its current consumer notebook PCs, comprising 70 percent of its consumer notebook PC line. Priced at $149.99 per piece, the Sonata batteries will be sold not only as part of an HP notebook, but also as a standalone upgrade or retrofit.

The incorporation of the new Sonata "green batteries" into the HP consumer notebook PC's was facilitated by the fact that HP had left the form factor of its notebook batteries relatively consistent.

B-P's environmentally-friendly Sonata battery technology is Ecolabel-certified. As per the company, the three-year sustainable performance that Sonata Li-ion battery cells deliver is thrice more than the computer batteries used in a majority of other notebook. In addition, the recharge of the batteries is also much quicker than other batteries - 80 percent recharge capacity in half-an-hour.

Noting the benefit of "green batteries" like Sonata, Jonathan Kaye, HP's director of consumer notebooks marketing, said that they "improve the computing experience, while reducing the number of batteries that need to be recycled."
