Watch out “humanoid robot” on catwalk at Tokyo Fashion Week!

You will soon see a humanoid robot on catwalk at Tokyo Fashion Show! The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology of Japan exhibited its fashion model robot - HRP-4C, on Monday.

The fashion model robot, HRP-4C was demonstrated just ahead of the Tokyo Fashion Week. In the demonstration on Monday, HRP-4C walked out, winking her eyes, a bit like an animation figure, and uttered, "Hello, everyone," in a feminine voice, as her lips moved.

HRP-4C, the 43 kg (95 pounds), 158 cm (5 ft 2 inch) Cybernetic model, is designed to look like a typical Japanese woman and has chin-length black hair with bangs.

Masayoshi Kataoka of Japan's NIAIST, which developed the HRP-4C said, "Its new shape is designed to match the average Japanese woman and has eyes, face and hair based on Japanese "anime" comics."

HRP-4C runs on battery-powered motors located in her body and face. She gives expressions, gait and poses like a typical fashion diva, but on a stormtrooper-like silver and black frame. She (HRP-4C) is slated to make her debut in the Tokyo fashion show on March 23.

HRP-4C looks much like female models, but Japan's NIAIST has not yet cleared her for walking the runway with live models at the fashion show. According to NIAIST, she cannot help with daily chores or work side by side with people.

Japan's NIAIST has no immediate plans to release the $2 million HRP-4C to market. Japan is home to almost half of the world's 800,000 industrial robots. It is expected to be a $10 billion industry in the future, as the demand for socially useful robots that can care for the elderly and sick, is growing.
