Alcohol Consumption Sees Rise with Falling Economy
It has been revealed according to new studies that with the sudden decline in the economy, there has been a rise in the alcohol consumption of people. It may be noted that a lot of people consider alcohol to be a comfort zone and tend to binge on it whenever they seem to have the slightest problem in life.
There are other factors as well that have contributed to the rise in the alcohol intake of people. These factors might range from the economic recession, and growing rates of unemployment to bankruptcy.
This has resulted in binge drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol as well as increased number of people with a drinking problem.
It was previously though that with the downturn in economy, the alcohol consumption levels of people will also come down, because they might find it difficult to purchase it. But this is exactly the opposite of what was thought. It was also thought that with the increasing unemployment, consumption of alcohol with decrease.
This is causing a lot of unrest among the health authorities as they are concerned about the health of the people of the vicinity. There is need for effective measures to be taken to boost the economy so that peace can be restored and the adverse effects such as over consumption of alcohol and so on may be reduced.
"It was thought that when unemployment goes up, income goes down and people will consume less because they don't have the resources", revealed Michael T. French, the lead researcher of the study.
