Experts Suggest Model to Understand Breast Cancer Tumor Growth

A team of experts from the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, has claimed to develop a new technique that can yield good results, particularly for identifying the cancer spreading. In addition, the expert team has notified that modeling breast cancer can help the scientists to understand the tumor growth.

Before suggesting the findings they observed that the mouse mammary glands implanted with tumor tissues have acquired identical properties of human patients suffering common disease.

While explain about the findings, an expert from the University of Utah, US, Dr. Alana Welm, claimed that during the research the tumor splice extended from the metastasized has surprised the experts.

Further, Dr. Alana Welm, who led the study, notified that grafts of tumor tissue retrieved from patient group with developed disease even in the lungs have also stimulated the disease spread among the mice, treated with those cells. "There is also the potential to develop similar models for other cancers using this method", added Welm, who is also offering services as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncological Sciences as well as an HCI investigator.

HCI's Breast Disease Oriented Team constituting surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical expert's pathologists, and laboratory scientists along with HCI's Comparative Oncology Resource, the Tissue Resource and Application Core, and ARUP Research Institute have blend their efforts to conclude the study findings.

The U. S. Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, the American Association for Cancer Research as well as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Huntsman Cancer Foundation has provided financial support generously to fund the study.

On the other hand, experts have expressed confidence that the findings will play a role to combat the lethal disease that affects countless lives every year, all over the world.
