The life of a nine-month-old baby from east London was saved after a medical team injected donor liver cells. It was found by the team of doctors at King's College Hospital, south east London, that Iyaad Syed was brought to the hospital in a serious condition at the age of two weeks. The team found that he had been attacked by a deadly virus and even his kidneys had stopped working.
The team inserted liver cells into the abdomen of the baby and it was ensured that the immunity of the baby is not being compromised with at any cost. As of now, the baby is doing fine and the parents are expecting the baby to recover as soon as possible.
The parents feel that this operation is nothing less than a miracle as there were bleak chances for the baby to survive. If Professor Anil Dhawan, Consultant Paediatric Hepatologist at King's Hospital, is to be believed, then this operation could mark as significant development in treating complex lives issues.
"Longer-term, we want to see whether this technique works in other patients, so we can properly assess how big an impact it can potentially have", said Professor Anil Dhawan.
For the parents, it was certainly a dreading experience to see the baby in such condition. The moment parents found that the baby has yellow tinge in his eyes, they took the baby to the nearby hospital. And to their shock, they were told to go for liver transplant. Instead of waiting for a donor, the team of doctors decided to test the new treatment, and it got the desired results.
Indeed it was a testing time for parents, but the credit goes to the incessant efforts of the team of doctors who made the cure possible. This case has certainly raised hopes of those who are reeling under the effect of complex liver problems.
