In what may well turn out to be extremely effective and a significant move in the field of health care being provided to patients all over England, it has recently been revealed that the government has made a couple of changes in its regulations related to registrations with medical practitioners throughout the regain.
As per the changes introduced by the government, patients can now avail the facilities of registration with a GP practice they prefer the most. It is somewhat clear from the amendments that the British government wants patients to feel free when it comes to soliciting treatment with General Practitioners in England.
On top of that, it will plainly imply that people can now sign up with a GP practicing in the closest proximity of their workplace, or children's school, instead of earlier situation that forced them to register with a GP working around their residence.
As part of the program, various regions of Manchester, Nottingham and London have been selected for carrying out initial assessments which are likely to begin in April 2012 and will go on for till the end of the year. On the other hand, even GPs have found something beneficial for in the modified regulations, as they are now permitted to choose whether or not they desire opting out of the scheme.
While revealing the details of the plans along with sharing a few of its benefits, the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, declared on Friday that, “I believe patients should have the freedom to choose a GP practice that suits their lives and not be restricted by geographical boundaries. It shouldn't lead to a considerable burden on behalf of PCTs”.
The Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) that are part of the pilots include City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Salford, Manchester and the City of Nottingham.
