New drug, Symbyax got approval of the Food and Drug Administration as a therapy for treatment-resistant depression.
Drug developer Eli Lilly & Co said that Symbyax is the first drug approved by FDA for the acute treatment of treatment-resistant depression, which involves two failed attempts with other anti-depressants.
The company added Symbyax combines the active ingredients of its Zyprexa antipsychotic and Prozac antidepressant.
Lilly said that it updated the Zyprexa and Symbyax labels to include additional information about weight gain, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia. The information was added after the FDA's review of clinical trial data Lilly submitted between August 2007 and July 2008.
