End of Norovirus Outbreak Declared in Hospitals

After the outbreak of norovirus, a number of hospitals were forced to close down some of their wards on the 16th of December, 2011. However, with the passage of time, two hospitals have assured control over the virus and have reopened their wards.

The hospitals have expressed regrets for closing down the wards. The Weston Area Health Trust was one of the hospitals which had to close down its wards for visitors. However, now the hospital has been opened for the visitors.

While pressing on the need for closing down the wards, Julia Stroud, Acting Director of nursing, said, “Restricting movement around our wards is crucial to reducing the risk of the infection spreading to more patients and their family members and our commitment to patient safety leaves us no option but to continue with this course of action”.

There is no doubt that reduced mobility in the infected wards and hospitals reduces the chances of the virus being spread to the masses. Although the wards of the Hospital have been reopened, it has been advised by the NHS that the movement of visitors should be reduced for yet another 48 hours so that their safety could be assured.

Acknowledging the guidelines of the NHS, the Warwick hospital and Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital kept their wards closed yesterday. Although it is being said that the outbreak of norovirus has ended, the people are required to maintain precautionary measures.

Norovirus is a seasonal flu, which causes diarrhea and vomiting among its victims. The virus is highly infectious and can be transmitted through air. The people are requested to stay away from the infected area and the person. Medical professionals have advised that those affected with norovirus should stay at home and have plenty of water.
