Novartis Recall Products Due to Safety Concerns

The Food and Drug Administration has recently issued a warning over contamination of some of the drugs from Novartis. Following the warning, Novartis has issued a recall of 1,645units of its Excedrin, NoDoz, Bufferin and Gas-X medicines.

It has been informed that the plant where the drugs are manufactured was shut down last month. The plant is said to be located at Lincoln. There are speculations that Novartis drugs have got mixed up with prescription pain pills and other over-the-counter medicines.

Till now, no complaint from the side of patients has been registered. Still, Novartis is ready to pay for compensation if any consumer has received any sort of side effect after consuming its drugs. In the past few months, many drug companies have reported contamination.

Last month, Johnson & Johnson's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit had to recall about 12 million bottles of Motrin as the pills were less effective in dissolving. However, since 2009, the company has been under controversies over the quality of its products.

The Chief Operating Officer of Novartis, Julie McHugh, said: "given existing inventories, the expected restart of Novartis production and our ability to shift production to other facilities we believe the supply constraints of our products should be limited".

The chief executive of the company, Joseph Jimenez, assured that the company is working on solving the issue as soon as possible. However, it is uncertain as to when the drugs would again be available in the market. Novartis, for the very first time, has come into the news for quality related issues.

The fault is seemed to be at the packaging place, an investigation would be held to gauge the main reason for the quality issue. A formal announcement would soon be made from the company soon regarding the investigation.
