Overhaul of Queensland Health Plan Comes Under the Scanner

Following the case of $16 million fraud at the Health Department, the Premier, Anna Bligh, has decided to overhaul the Queensland Health plan so that in future such incidents could be avoided. However, the opposition parties have expressed opposition against the idea of revamping the health plan.

Anna Bligh criticized the current health plan by describing it has the biggest decentralization of the public sector in the state's history. However, Mark McArdle, the Shadow Health Minister, said that the Labor’s plan to split one department into two is a welcome note for further corruption as the ministers involved in the previous scam would be pardoned.

While criticizing the efforts of the government, Mark McArdle, said, “Anna Bligh and Labor have had 20 years to get Queensland Health right, more than 7000 days. Now they expect Queenslanders to believe they can fix it within 100 days on the back of a report cobbled together in 30 days”.

It is believed that as the elections are reaching near, the government is just using gimmick tricks to attract the attention of the voters. Previously, the government did assure of reducing the waiting list but till now no concrete steps has been taken.

It has been informed that the waiting list has worsened and the ambulance services are also not meeting their goals of reaching to patients timely. Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nichols also criticized the decision to revamp the health plan by saying that saying that the idea is sheer political gimmick.

Tim Nichols said that the government has run out of the strategies and plans to gain votes in the coming elections and therefore taking harsh decisions. Condemning the allegations, Ms. Bligh assured that the revamp of the health plan would improve the working of the hospitals and would also lead to security to the health department.
