Irish Lifestyle Increases Risk of Cancer in the Nation

It has been revealed by a latest report that lifestyle of people in Ireland as well as large number of ageing people has given rise to increased pace of cancers in the country. A projected rise in cancer cases is the result of ageing population, says the report.

An analysis was conducted by a team at the World Cancer Research Fund UK, which studied the life of Irish population. It was analyzed by the team that older people tend to suffer more of the deadly cancer disease. The team told that cancer primarily occurs in elderly people and Ireland and Britain mainly comprise of ageing people.

It has thus been estimated by the cancer research group that the countries are at greater risk of having cancer and a significant rise in cancer cases up to 72 % has been feared by the team. According to the findings of the study, nearly 2,000 payouts on life cover that were made in 2011 have signaled that 44% of the same was due to cancer.

The team has found that the country is being victimized the most by breast cancer, followed by colon cancer and prostate cancer, which are likely to kill many. The analysis by the world cancer research team has proved that cancer is largely the cause of maximum deaths in the nation. The reasons are ageing and lifestyle factors such as being relatively inactive, drinking a lot and unhealthy eating habits due to which most people are obese.

Obesity and alcohol consumption is the most probable cause of varied cancers in people, says the study. "Measures to reduce the fat, sugar and salt content of food and drinks and to improve the opportunities for physical activity is the type of developments we need", added Dr. Kate Allen, Science and Communications Director, at WCRF International.
