A Person’s Name that is Easy To Pronounce Gives him Popularity, Says Research

A recent research conducted by the researchers of Melbourne has found that the person whose name is easy to pronounce leaves lasting impression over others. According to the researchers the ‘name pronunciation effect’ helps others in judging others.

According to the lead researcher of the study, Dr. Simon Laham people with easy to pronounce names are judged positively. In fact these people also higher probability of being promoted as compared to those whose name are tough to pronounce.

The findings of the study have been published in the Experimental Social Psychology, journal. For the research, the researchers looked at different surnames of people belonging to different set of nationalities.

During the research, surnames like Sherman, O'Sullivan and Philippidis were found to be easily pronounced. Melbourne software expert and translator’s name, Oksana Katorjevskaya, was found to be most difficult to pronounce by the researchers. Oksana Katorjevskaya informed that her colleagues had difficulty in pronouncing her name right for many years.

Oksana Katorjevskaya informed that her name caused hurdle in getting the desired attention in the workplace. She said, “You get a bit insulted when people don't make an effort to pronounce or spell your name correctly”.

Dr. Simon Laham pointed out that easy to pronounce names help people in winning friends. The reason behind the belief has not been clarify by the researchers. However, it is just a small study to gauge the effect of name over others who pronounce it.

Whenever one travels to foreign land, one does come across alien names that do create ambiguity in the mind of others. The researchers have further pointed out that easy to pronounce name win attention in the political elections. To describe in short we can say that easy to pronounce name gain popularity.
