Medical experts for long have been advising women to breastfeed their babies for at least six months. Breast milk is believed to have essential minerals and vitamins which are good for the development of the baby.
But recently, a stir over breast milk versus bottle milk was seen. In an advertisement, Piri Weepu was shown bottle feeding his daughter. The advertisement was about anti-smoking. However, the association supporting breastfeeding expressed agitation over the scene in which Piri Weepu bottle feed his daughter.
As a result of the agitation, the scene was cut from the advertisement. This particular incident pushed Kate Rhodes to come up in defense of bottle feeding. She is of the view that spending time with the kids matter rather than breast feeding.
She supported her comments by saying that she prefers to feed her baby through bottle and not through breast because she is in the habit of consuming alcohol. Kate Rhodes said, “I've always decided I’m going to bottle feed… I've also read on the SMA thing that all the good stuff is in [breast milk]. I don't know if I’ve got good stuff in me - I drink coffee and a bit of booze”.
Moreover, if men are given the responsibility of taking care of the infants, then they also have the right to bottle feed the child. She stated that Piri Weepu’s scene should not have been cut from the advertisement. No doubt breast milk is good for the health of baby but if the mother is not comfortable in breastfeeding then she should be allowed to bottle feed the baby.
Debate over bottle feeding and breastfeeding is gearing momentum swiftly as the supporters of the Piri Weepu are showing their anger against the decision of cutting the scene from the advertisement.
