A recent study has found that from the past many decades, people have been misled by the sleeping guidelines. The findings of the study have been published in the journal Pediatrics. The researchers of Australia have conducted the study.
The sleeping pattern of children was observed by the researchers and it was found that kids had been missing their crucial 37 minutes of sleep. The researchers have blamed technology advancement in causing harm to the sleeping pattern of the children.
A good night sleep is very beneficial for the overall growth of the children. If some hours are restrained from their sleep, it could have serious consequences over the health of the children. While concluding the findings of the study, the researchers wrote in the journal, “The rationale for sleep recommendations was also strikingly consistent for more than 100 years: Children were overtaxed by the stimulation of modern living, although that stimulation was embodied in whatever the technological avatar of the time was”.
It has been revealed by the National Sleep Foundation that the need for sleep varies from children to children according to their age. According to the Foundation, school-going children should get a sleep of at least 10 hours. And, teenagers should get a sleep of at least eight-and-a-half hours.
However, parents need not be worried about their kids’ sleep as long as they are active and alert. If a child is unable to concentrate on studies and is always lazy then it means that the kid is not getting right amount of sleep. According to the researchers, the advent of internet has caused a major harm over the sleeping pattern of kids as they tend to spend too much time over chatting and gaming online.
