Medical professionals and researchers are getting really worried about the increase they have recently noticed in the number of affected cases from the liver-destroying ailment known as hepatitis C, especially among baby boomers.
It is true that the recent data has put baby boomers at maximum risk from the liver-destroying hepatitis C.
With similar concerns, federal health officials have also started urging people born between 1945 and 1965 to get themselves checked by conducting blood tests at least once to confirm if their livers are harboring the so-called ticking time bomb.
Reports have confirmed that Hepatitis C is affecting larger number of people with every passing day, and two-third of the affected population falls under the above mentioned age group. Hepatitis C is a slow-growing virus as it takes a few decades to do its damage, but it is also being stated true in the report that the virus has been affecting the baby boomers since their younger days. Thus, they have been put at the highest risk of the damage from this deadly illness.
Researchers have introduced two new drugs in the market last summer promising to give best cure to all those, who have been affected from Hepatitis C. Thus with the help of Monday’s published report, the researchers have started testing millions of the middle-aged people to find if any of them is affected and needs the pricey life-saving treatment.
“One of every 33 Baby Boomers are living with hepatitis C infection”, says Dr. John Ward, the Hepatitis Chief at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “Most people will be surprised, because it's a silent epidemic”. The time is really urging a desperate need to get checked against hepatitis C.
