In a recent report it has been revealed that Nathan Prince, who is 17 years old, who died of a heart attack was due to the bump in the chest that he had suffered while the game between North Ballarat City and Bacchus Marsh in the West of Melbourne, last year in August.
The grieving father of the boy is hopeful that defibrillators will prove to be a helping gift for the Victorian sporting clubs. He is of the hope that this might be able to prevent any future accidents of this sort. Ian, Nathan’s father is of the view that had it been for a defibrillator, his son would be alive today.
The St. John Ambulance Victoria’s decision to donate as many as 100 defibrillators has definitely been a good decision as it would help in safeguarding players in the future. This would tend to prevent many accidents in the time to come.
"We wish (defibrillators) were around a year ago. We don't know 100 per cent whether it would've made a difference or not, but we'll never die without that question in our mind”, said Mr. Prince. He further revealed how it had been a torturing time for the family when they lost their young son. He said he would never wish any family has to suffer a similar loss.
This is why it is all the more important to make people aware about the need for safety gear while playing any sort of sports. Simple accidents are causing people their lives and this is something that needs to be changed. It is essential that people are taught how to use the safety gear as well, and this would tend to prove a major help in saving many lives in the future.
