GPs Being Overpaid
GPs Being Overpaid

A recent report has alleged that GPs have been overpaid for those patients who have either succumbed to death or are no longer availing treatment. The report was compiled on the basis of a review conducted by the Audit Commission.

During the review, it was found that a large number of patients were still listed on the GPs listed who have actually either stopped taking treatment or have shifted to some other health care provider. It has further come to light that a GP was paid almost for 40 years for a patient who had died long time ago in 1969.

The report clearly shows that the list of the GPs is poor maintained and therefore there are being overpaid unnecessarily. The worst part of the story is that when a patient moves to another health care provider or GP and is not removed from the list of the previous GP then in that case, two GPs are paid for the same patient.

For a single patient, a GP is paid as much as £64.59. In the report, titled ‘the National Duplicate Registration Initiative’ it has been suggested that if these errors are rectified then the health care sector can save as much as £6.1 million in one year.

It is shameful to know that the GPs are being paid for those services which they are not exactly providing. The whole England is already facing a tight financial condition. In such a case it is necessary to make sure that no amount of money is being overspend as that money could be invested over saving the innocent lives. The people are hopeful that the authorities concerned will get the message through the report and they will take action immediately.
