Asian Carp Raises Concerns for Obama Administration

As per recent reports, it has been revealed that Obama administration has planned to launch the 2012 Asian Carp Control Strategy Framework. The US Government is going to spend $51.5 million to keep silver carp, a species of fish away from Great lakes.

The amount will be spent to find out ways to control the carp and as well as to conduct water sampling test to know how far the fish have traveled. Ecologists said that the Asian carp can prove quite dangerous for other aquatic animals.

It can destroy aquatic food chain and can also damage submerged vegetation. So, it became important for authorities concerned to take some action in this regard. Official reports said that they do not think it will be too hard for them to keep Asian carp away from the Great lakes.

Majorly, the fish is found throughout the Mississippi River Basin and very few are spotted in the Great Lakes. However, things cannot be taken for sure till they find out the truth. Officials informed that they have thought of some measures, which they think will work to keep Asian carp at bay.

Some the suggested ways were to pass scent-based lures for the Asian carp as they get attracted to the fragrance and it gets easy to catch them. Other ways are to shoot acoustic water gun on the fish which will help to repel them. Improved shock wires are also in the plan list which is said to keep the Asian carp at the other side of the fence.

In addition, the Army Corps of Engineers are doing a study to find out the ways to avoid Asian carp to come at the Great lakes. It is said that the study will conclude by 2015.
