It has been unfolded in a recent report that Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. missed out the lot number and expiry date on seven of oral contraceptive tablets. The company has told that this kind of packaging error could result in reversing of tablet orientation a week.
As per the findings of the report, the company itself has told on Saturday that if any blister is found lacking the lot number and expiry date, there is a need for recall of the same. It has been found that the company's North American division firm namely Glenmark Generics Inc., based in India had done this packaging error i. e. it packed the pills in wrong order.
It is due to this fault by the company that a voluntary consumer-level recall of seven lots of pills from the US is being issued throughout the nation. The report has revealed that it had made seven lots of oral contraceptive tablets, including Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets USP, 0.18 mg/0.035 mg, 0.215 mg/0.035 mg, 0.25 mg/0.035mg, with the lot number and expiry date only on the outer package.
The report has also found that the medications prescribed for the prevention of pregnancy in women were distributed to retail pharmacies and wholesale companies in the US between September 21, 2011 and December 30, 2011. It has been told by the company that the packaging error could lead to adverse effects as it could risk women to have unintended pregnancy even after taking the contraceptive tablets.
Another firm, Pfizer Inc., which is the largest drugmaker in the world, has also declared a recall on February 1, says the report. It is being said that the recalls are being made under the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.
