Silver Cross Hospital Closes 117-Year-Old Joliet Birthing Center

An up-to-date report has revealed that a baby boy who has taken birth on Feb. 24 at 10:05 p. m. is the last baby to be born in Joliet campus of Silver Cross Hospital in Manhattan. It is being said that he is the one to end the traditional 117 years of births in that campus.

It has been uncovered that where family of newly born Alan Haag, including his mother, father and 4-year-old sister Caelan were so happy at his birth, the hospital's officials affirmed that he is the last to be born at Joliet campus as from now, births would take place at hospital's new birthing center at the hospital's New Lenox facility.

The report has found, however, that the baby is healthy, weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces as well as is 20½ inches long. Also, on discovering him as the last new born at Joliet campus, the hospital's staff presented him a T-shirt made by the Birthing Center's midnight nurse Elise Wilson, which says "We Saved the Best for Last". Also, he was given some gift baskets.

It is being said by the officials, all other, more than 120 patients, have been taken to the new campus at Route 6 and Interstate 355, which is about three miles east. The report says that it is possibly the biggest task undertaken by the hospital i. e. to shift its operations from Joliet to New Lenox on Sunday Morning via ambulance.

The officials have also revealed that the new birthing center has been developed with 12 birthing suites that are meant for labour, delivery and recovery. It was under preparation since last November, they added, and it has taken several weeks for them to move all the items and sterilize the entire facility.

"It's hard. I spent a third of my life in that office. But it's time. Silver Cross deserves this", said Paul Pawlak, Silver Cross President and CEO.
