Are you in the habit of consuming red meat on regular basis? Then it's high time for you to start looking for alternatives as a recent study has revealed that regular consumption of red meat could lead to premature death and could also increase the risk of a person being affected with diabetes.
The study was conducted by the researchers of the US. The study was continued for several decades and 100,000 people participated in the study. The findings of the study have been published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
The lead author of the study, Frank Hu informed that processed meat can be deadly for the consumers as it contains a large amount of harmful chemicals. Frank Hu was reported as saying, ". previous studies have found consumption of red meat is linked to diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. What's surprising is the magnitude ... Even a small amount of red meat is associated with a significantly increased risk of mortality".
The consumers are now being advised to swap red meat with chicken for at least once in a week. Hu informed that red meat not only contains chemicals but also contains high level of salt and cholesterol.
The study lacks in proof and therefore it can't be trusted blindly. However, it is advisable for the consumers to avoid having red meat on regular basis. Further studies over red meat would be conducted.
The researchers of the study have further warned that consumption of red meat could trigger cancer. Red protein is believed to be a rich source of protein. By cutting the consumption of red meat, the avoidable deaths could be prevented, believe researchers. Acknowledging the findings, the World Cancer Research Fund has also asked the consumers to reduce the consumption of red meat.
