Homeopathy Treatment Comes Under Scanner

Recently, a professor from the Exeter University had raised doubts over the effectiveness of using homeopathy on the NHS. Professor Edzard Ernst supported his assertion saying that the treatment, homeopathy, has not proved successful in the clinical trials.

Still, there are many who are taking the therapy while ignoring the scientific evidences. Edzard Ernst further informed that the treatment for some could even be lethal. Edzard Ernst is a former homoeopathist and has raised questions over the use of scientifically unproven homeopathy treatment.

Every year, the NHS spends £4 million over the homeopathy treatment with the pursuit of improving the health of the patients. Edzard Ernst, while writing in the Biologist magazine said, “Homeopathy could be (and often is) used as an alternative to effective interventions. For example, the advice from homeopaths not to immunise has become a major cause of low vaccination rates”.

The researchers have been studying over variety of medications which could prove effective in treating hard to treat diseases. Still, patients and some doctors are opting for the homeopathy treatment’s which has not been clinically proven.

Edzard Ernst has asked the authorities to step in and prevent doctors from prescribing homeopathy treatment, which doesn’t hold scientific grounds. It is believed that when a patient is prescribed with the homeopathy then he or she thinks that the treatment has been previously tested. But the fact is that many patients are being misled. They believe that the homeopathy is beneficially but the reality is something else.

When it comes to the care of patients, they should not be misled about the treatment and their health complications. Therefore, it has been asked that the homeopathy treatment should be avoided from being prescribed by the NHS.
