Einstein’s Archives to be posted online For the First Time

For the first time, the complete archives of Albert Einstein will be posted online. The world will be allowed to directly read and know the actual person behind the huge scientific research.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has all the papers of this German’s physicist. Einstein was one of the founders of this university. He contributed his original work papers to the university in 1925. Four years later he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work. Rather, he gave the rights to this university to use his images and rest of the papers before his death in 1955.

The collection present contains 14 notebooks filled with research notes, letters to his loved ones and contemporaries and explanation of his theory of relativity and its summarizing equation E=MC2 . At present the authorities of the university are all busy in checking out the records and posting them.

The President of Hebrew University, Menachem Ben Sasson said, “Knowledge is not about hiding. It's about openness”.

The posting of the archive content was even started before and by 2003, they managed to upload 900 manuscript images and an incomplete catalogue containing just the half of the total content available. However, at that time the permission was not granted to further upload any work.

However, now Polonsky Foundation UK has granted the permission to upload all 80,000 items of Einstein collection. Rather, these items have been catalogued.

This updated catalogue contains an initial 2000 documents, or 7000 pages from his personal and public life up to the year 1921. The rest of the information is in process to be uploaded. However, that is expected to take some time. This online project was successfully implemented by the university along with Princeton University and the California Institute of Technology. This will surely help the scholars around the world know the different aspects present, which were previously unknown to them.
