Too Much Of Salt in Pizza Is Dangerous for Health, Say Researchers

The growing concern over obesity has made the people worrisome about the level of calories and salt that they intake with their meals. However, hardly any pay attention to the level of salt contained in Pizza.

A recent research has found that a variety of Pizza's available in the supermarkets carries salt level above then recommended. During the research, several pizzas were collected from various supermarkets. It was found that one third of the pizzas contain more than the recommended 1.25g of salt per 100g.

It was further come to light that Tesco Full-on-flavour Simply Pepperoni thin stone-baked pizza contained salt 30% more than the recommended level of salt. For the research, 199 margherita and pepperoni pizzas were analyzed, which were collected from supermarket, takeaways and pizza chains.

The level of salt contained in the pizzas is worrisome. Too much of salt could lead to high blood pressure and obesity. The high blood pressure can directly affect the working of heart and thus could lead to hearing problems.

It is hoped that the pizza manufacturers would take a serious note of the findings and would take steps to reduce the level of salt. The research was conducted by an organization called Cash.

Through the research, the organization has empowered many food outlets about their pitfalls. It is important to keep a tab over the nutrition level while offering food to the consumers. The chairman of the Cash, Professor Graham MacGregor, was reported as saying, "The Government is not taking enough action. Salt puts up our blood pressure - the highest risk factor for stroke. Reducing our intake would save thousands of people suffering and dying from a stroke". Cash is hopeful that the findings would help government in understanding its pitfalls.
