Porto Alegre, Brazil - Brazil obtained Wednesday a long-awaited home win against Peru in the South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

A brace from Luis Fabiano and handsome personal effort from Felipe Melo settled things for the home side in Porto Alegre. Robinho put on an impressive first-half performance.

Luis Fabiano opened the score from the spot in the 17th minute, after Kaka was brought down on the box, while the Sevilla striker added a second goal 10 minutes later. In the second half, Melo sealed the result at 3-0.

While Peru hit the crossbar once towards the end of the game, the Brazilian win was never in doubt.

The result leaves Brazil second in the qualifiers' table, with 21 points in 12 games, three points behind leader Paraguay. Peru in turn, remains the last-placed team in the qualifiers, with just seven points.

Brazil had been held to goal-less draws in its past three home games in the qualifiers. (dpa)
