CQC Makes Improvements

The England's health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission, was set up in 2009 from the merger of three organizations. It was performing well, but started receiving criticism in recent months. Things deteriorated to such an extent that CQC head Cynthia Bower announced that she will step down from her post.

As per reports, the CQC came under limelight at the time when the BBC's Panorama programme unveiled the deteriorating condition of the BBC's Panorama programme, near Bristol. Thing kept on deteriorating since then, and incidents kept on taking place one after the other.

The House of Commons Health Committee and the National Audit Office also monitored its working and put forth the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust. MPs also started pointing towards the CQC and then there was no stopping to the failures of the issues.

The CQC was blamed for lack of inspections and for maintaining friendly relations with hospital managers. It was also blamed for not filling the key positions. All these incidents made MPs to reach at a decision that the CQC has failed in fulfilling its responsibilities. They lost trust and raised questions on its ability of protecting patients.

However, Bower said that they agree things are not in their favor, but they are trying their level best to improve things. The CQC tried and improved, but MPs said that CQC has a long way to travel.

A spokesman for the Care Quality Commission said that they have started addressing all the issues being raised by MPs. He further affirmed that he is quite distressed to see that people have failed to see efforts of the CQC. "We are disappointed that the report does not recognize the significant improvements of recent months, he said.
