As per reports, it has been revealed that there are probable chances that happy hours will be banned in New York clubs and other dining places. The source known to the matter has confirmed the news and has affirmed that the Department of Health is quite serious about the proposal.
The proposal has been tabled by Commissioner Thomas Farley, who is the agency's marathon-running boss. He said that it will be very difficult for alcohol companies to win this time. However, the agency Spokesman Sam Miller said that they have no such plans in regard to alcohol-discount schemes.
On the other place, officials from the Department of Health have said that the anti-booze proposal has reached at another level and it is also possible that presence of liquor in ice-creams also gets banned.
All has been done to bring a decline in the number of alcoholics as well as to reduce alcohol misuse incidents. The Department of Health said that 209 per 100,000 people have got admitted in hospital due to alcohol abuse and the figures will keep on increasing, if no timely action is taken.
The Department of Health issued a statement saying, “DOH will advocate for policies that reduce access to alcohol by adolescents and for limits on sales practices in communities and campuses that promote drinking among adolescents and heavy drinking among adults”.
If popular proposal of Farley gets green signal, then New York will join other 19 states of the country, where happy hours are already banned. Bar owners are not happy with the proposal as they can see their future similar to the bar owners of the other 19 states. They further affirmed that they do not find any harm in offering alcohol at reduced price.
