Strong Drugs Used In IVF May Risk a Mother’s Health

As per reports, it has been revealed that chemicals used in the IVF procedure are not at all healthy for a woman. The IVF procedures are commonly used in the UK, where doctors give high doses of toxic drugs to enhance the success ration.

However, the effect of toxic drugs is quite devastating on mothers. It has been seen that these drugs cause abnormalities in embryos as well as damages the health of mother. Recently, a conference was held in Copenhagen, where it was suggested that rather than using strong drugs, mild drugs should be used.

Professor Geeta Nargund, who is the head of reproductive medicine at St George's Hospital in London, was of the view that high dose increases the side effects and in many cases, it can cause ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS).

"A recent confidential inquiry into maternal deaths in the UK showed that OHSS was now one of the biggest causes of maternal mortality in England and Wales", she further affirmed.

Geeta said that it is a high time that doctors should understand that if they continue giving high doses of drugs to women then there are chances that next time there will be very few patients, who will appear for the IVF procedure.
