Canada Witnesses Baby Boom Period

As per recent census figures of Canada, it has been revealed that there has been a significant rise in the number of elderly living in Canada. It shall further be noticed that majority of the young generation in Canada has been located in the northern side of the country.

The census report revealed that Nunavut has youngest population of the country, where median age of a person is 24 years. However Yukon has the oldest population of the country, where 39 years is the median age.

It has been further revealed that Yukon has seen a 2.6% rise in the elderly population and Nunavat has seen 4.3% rise in the young population. Long-time statistics professor, Tom Wonnacott was of the view that the country has been witnessing baby boost.

There has been a tremendous rise in the number of children living in under -five. The report revealed that baby boom fertility rate has increased by 3.7 births per woman.

There are many reasons for such a significant rise. Two main reasons of such an increase are rise in fertility levels and longer life expectancies. The report has also revealed that is 14.8% of the population living in Canada come sunder senior citizen category.
