‘Other Flu Vaccines are Safe’, Says Chief Medical Officer

However, a ban was declared for the flu vaccine developed in 2010 by CSL Biotherapies since it caused small children to suffer febrile convulsions. But, Chief Medical Officer in Australia claims that two other vaccines can certainly be used without fear.

CSL Biotherapies had been asked to change its manufacturing process, since the same was not flawless. The FluVax brand vaccine manufactured by it contained more virus components than usually inserted in flu vaccines.

An inquest had also been conducted, which had revealed that the immunization of the vaccine caused nearly seven in a thousand children to get febrile convulsions that further lead to brain damage. And therefore, the drug had faced a ban for below five, but was allowed for those above the age.

Though, the ban would continue as per the order of the country's government. Professor Chris Baggoley now has been saying that parents should not worry about other such vaccines. Two other drugs in Australia are perfectly safe and can be given to children above six months of age.

Professor Baggoley further said, "I think it is important that parents realize it is a serious disease for young children, that there is a vaccine that does work for influenza, and the vaccines that we are now using in young children are safe".
