Study Under process to Confirm the Effects of Oxycontin over Children

In an earlier trial, the effects of OxyContin were confirmed over adults but in case of children, the same was not done. According to the maker of this prescription painkiller OxyContin, now they are all set to begin this clinical trial. Before prescribing the drug to children, it is crucial to study its impact over them.

The Food and Drug Administration has strictly expelled this drug to be used over children till that time and according to Purdue Pharma they are not even looking out for that approval.

In all, around 154 children are required for conducting this study. Patients who can participate in it need to be between the ages of 6 and 17. They should be suffering from moderate to severe pain, and should have been already confirmed for accepting the tolerance opioid painkillers.

As told by Jim Heins, senior director for public affairs at Purdue Pharma, "These children have diseases such as cancer or sickle-cell anemia, post-operative pain, injuries such as severe burns causing this degree of pain".

With the help of this study, the team would easily be able to recognize the effect of OxyContin Tablets over the young patients. Apart from this, they will also be able to learn that how exactly the drug breaks down and get absorbed by their body.
