THEMIS spacecraft Finds Science Portals

It has been found in a recent report that a team of researchers at the University of Iowa has found a way of discovering the portal, which is considered as the most favourite science fiction theme.

As per the findings, the portals are till dated doubted about their existence, but the latest study gives strong evidence that they really do.

The team had used its THEMIS spacecraft to observe the magnetic portals in the study, which has led it to claim that these open and close every day, not once but several times. Even probes into these portals by Europe’s Cluster have also hinted that some small and others vast and expanded, all these allow particles to flow through their openings.

Jack Scudder, who is a plasma physicist, says that these are electron diffusion regions, also known as X-points in common, which connect magnetic field of Earth to that of the Sun. Also, these are responsible for paving a way of 93 million miles from the planet to the Sun.

“In the late 1990s, NASA’s Polar spacecraft spent years in Earth’s magnetosphere and it encountered many X-points during its mission”, Scudder affirms.

The report finds that the team has now been aiming to conduct “MMS” or Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission so as to study the phenomenon in detail.
