Cannabis Compounds found Helping Treat Obesity

Scientists are claiming to have found two cannabis compounds, which they claim can help professionals treat obesity. The compounds in talks here are THCV and cannabidiol.

Researchers have noticed in the animal tests they ran that both the cannabis compounds have properties to raise the energy levels of the body, thereby keeping obesity at its lowest. Both THCV and cannabidiol are found with appetite suppressing effect too but for a short while.

The results of the animal tests have shown that the cannabis compounds can treat type-2 diabetes and also they can help in bringing the levels of cholesterol in the blood stream down. The next good results favoring both the compounds said: they cut fat in key organs of the body like liver.

Scientists claim that the compounds can lower the fat level and its response to insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar levels. With the details, the report cleared that THCV showed a positive effect on the animals' sensitivity to insulin, and next, it also protected the cells that produced insulin ensuring a better and a longer working.

Mr. Steph Wright, Director of research and development at GW Pharmaceuticals developing the drugs, said: "The results in animal models have been very encouraging. We are interested in how these drugs effect the fat distribution and utilization in the body as a treatment for metabolic diseases". Studies are still ongoing.
