Allegations subjected by a UN official against Afghanistan’s intelligence agency have deteriorated the relation of United Nations with Afghan government. James Rodehaver, has accused the agency of have abused suspects found guilty in mysterious illnesses striking schoolgirls and have forced them to confess.
Mr. Rodehaver also decried Afghan authorities for publicizing videotaped confessions. Previous reports suggest that since the past few weeks, several school girls in Afghanistan have been admitted to hospital. All the girls have been exhibiting similar symptoms including, wooziness, weakness and also nausea.
However, the Afghan authorities have claimed that such incidents have been incurred due to poisonings by rebels, who are against the education of females.
The National Directorate of Security, or NDS, Afghanistan's domestic intelligence agency, said, “The arrest last month of several suspects, including two young girls it alleged to have been involved in a Taliban plot to poison schoolgirls in the northern province of Takhar”.
However, in its statement, released this June, Taliban has declared that they are not behind these incidents. Further, Taliban has criticized and opposed the allegations.
On the other hand, tests carried out by US officials suggest the illness has been spread amongst the school girls due to such pathogen or bacteria that means, the illness is natural and no one is behind it or doing it deliberately.
