Continuous Working Shifts Risking Doctors and Patients’ Health

It is good to be hard working, but it seems that Australian doctors are stretching their limits. A recent survey that was done by Australian Medical Association, it has been revealed that Australian doctors are working continuously day and night, and have been risking their as well as the health of patients.

In order to reach at the above given result, the study researchers assessed 1500 doctors. Assessment report revealed that 53% of them were at the risk of being diagnosed with extreme fatigue.

During the investigation, certain mind boggling facts were revealed like one doctor has worked 43 hours continuously and other one has worked 120 hours. Geoffrey Dobb, who is the vice-president of AMA, said that the survey result has raised concerns.

Dobb said that 17 hours shift is enough to impair the senses of a person, and they have come across cases where doctors have been working for more than the mentioned time period. The report has given a chance to raise fingers on Victorian Health Minister David Davis, as he promised to bring improvements in the working schedules.

Professor Dobb said, ''You get stories from junior doctors all the time who'll be on their way home from a very long shift and they'll be falling asleep at traffic lights”.
