The Medical Injuries Alliance supporting DePuy Orthopaedics said the previous day that while a recall of all faulty hip implants has been announced by the company, it might require a litigation to go in for long years in case it takes responsibility for ongoing sufferings and pain as well, as per a recent report.
Barrister Sara Antoniotti said that DePuy is already planning to go out-of-pocket to cover the harms caused to people by hip implants supplied by it. Also, an agreement to conduct rehabilitative surgeries is no far from it to be signed.
Thus, there is no meaning in asking it to look after those who are in pain or are at risks of the same. It is being said by her that the only substitute to provision of compensation for enduring pain is tripartite litigation. And though, the same is extremely costly and time consuming, the compensation option would only be liable to the company.
The substandard hip replacements were provided almost to 3,500 people in Ireland. It is because of this reason that Ms. Antoniotti has also called for a committee to ask Government to solve the issue between concerned hospitals, the State and consultant surgeons and manufacturers of devices.
