Reports released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention clearly state that the United States is badly trapped in the web of whooping cough. This is for the first time since last five decades that such a high number of cases have come into noticed. Last year, the same was recorded as somewhere around 8000-9000, which this year has directly crossed 18,000. This clearly shows that the disease is spreading with a double pace this year.

Till now, nine children have already been reported dead because of whooping cough and there seems, higher chances ahead.

For prevention sake, the health officials have called upon adults, especially pregnant women and all those who spend maximum time around children, to get the vaccination for it. There are certain vaccinations that could not be given to infants due to which they are at a higher risk of catching the disease. This is one reason for making infants below 6 months of age, a fifth of total number of WC cases.

With passing years, the number of whooping cough cases is increasing so far. This indicates a high demand for theories that could detect the bacteria responsible for it, in a better way. There must be some kind of shortcomings too in the vaccination that the health officials are failing to control the disease. It’s a matter of great concern and seeks immediate action.
