New Guidelines for Organ Donation

It has been reported that under the new organ donation guidelines, drivers will not be asked to donate their organs. Under the previous scheme, drivers while applying for license were asked to fill a form regarding organ donation. Under the scheme, the drivers were encouraged to become a responsible donor.

The scheme was introduced with the aim of boosting the organ donation. However, it has been found that the scheme has not helped as family members of drivers have declined the doctors for organ transplant. The CEO of Transplant Australia, Chris Thomas, was reported saying, "You would imagine a life event such as getting a driver's licence would be a great time to get people to think about organ and tissue donation. They're saying no in an uneducated and uniformed way".

Therefore, with the aim of increasing the rates of organ donation a new scheme has been drafted. Under the new scheme, the doctors and GPs would be encouraged to talk to the people about the importance of organ donation openly.

It is believed that the new scheme would help in getting people educated about the importance of getting organs donated. A large number of people die while waiting for transplant. But, most of the people are ignorant that their organ donation can help one in reliving one's life.
